Default myspace selling music

in regards to what you guys posted on Crosstalk 017, was there any sort of idea what the royalties to an artist would be for this and if that gets put into soundscan or anything of that sort?

with myspace doing this, it makes me wonder if they're going to stick it to the artists and give them a tiny share of their royalties (ala iTunes has done) and give Rupert Murdoch another yacht off the money they're not giving to the artists.

where can i find more info about this and did myspace announce when this will be taking place?

...I still wanna find Tom and just smack him upside the head, but that's another story.

well I heard that artists set their own price. Myspace has yet to announce what their fee is going to be, or when the service will launch. I can see some major bands taking serious advantage of this to make more money

record labels on their own are already in the throws of being finished anyway. I give them 6-10 years before they're all gone.

No matter what they do I speculate Mr Murdoch will be able to afford more than just one yacht with the profits from this venture.

PHEW. Thank god. When did they expect this to go live, and how are they gonna pay their "artists?"

Artists is in quotations because most of the bands on there suck so badly it's not even funny.

seconded. it's not a good sign when you have to randomly spam people to listen to your 3rd grade level poetry over what could only be described as "dave matthews music with a hip-hop beat."

For as much horrible music there is on Myspace, I bet you can also find the most original music on there, and its coming in from all over the world now. I have to be honest, most of the new music I listen to these days is by unpopular myspace promoters. Also, every good popular band should have a good myspace following by now. So...who cares about all the junk? Just put on your "deny a band request" filter and search out some really amazing music.

yea, that may work for some people, but i still get spammed by requests; and when it does, they send me email messages (often more than once) like:

hey dude,

saw your profile, you seem to be the kind of person that would dig our music. anyone that likes motown is cool in our book. we are a christian death metal band that sings about poo. check out our music. come to our show on october 17th at the cow shack in san antonio, texas.
