Default Vista or XP64?

I have a Pc thats on norm XP & as Vista is coming out soon I'ma bit confused as to really what to go for. Of course Microsoft is going to back Vista big time but after the gearwire pod cast & watching the Rain Recordings doc I'm still confused as to which to put on my machine.
I don't have the best PC CPU in the world mind you. It's a Intel 930 D 3.0 with 1 GB of Ram + a 300 HD.

After hearing that the graphics on Vista are for the recoding man..bla..bla..we
don't need them.

X64 has been around for a while but the gear support has been lacking. I only have one keyboard though so that's cool. I'm sure I could find a driver for it.
Point is for me I need the OS to address movement/issues & be like all what you other gezzers need. You know the score.

What I'm trying to say is now that Vista is the new kid on the bloke should I adopt it because support for it will be faster than that of XP64 or should I go with my gut & install XP64.

ErrrHmmm

Vista.....XP64?

a)sorry if this is in the wrong place.
b)sorry if this has been done to death.

Again in Vista we could see what happend in XP in that:Turn this..off..tweek that...Same for most OS I guess & to add to it all,VST3 will be more
around soon.

Can anyone see what I'm trying to get at? I'm trying to prep a little.

DX266 was better than a BBC but not as good as a P4.lol It goes on & on & on & on...hehe.

My trust I place in you guys.

Thanks so much for reading my plite.

Happy 2007 chaps.

x64 is where I will be headed as long as I can still get my hands on a legit copy by the time I upgrade to a 64-bit machine. Seems like they've stuck too much crap into Vista. Especially the copy protection stuff.

Personally, I want my OS to run lean, as lean as possible. I feel like if I am forced to go with Vista when I upgrade my machine to a 64, I will probably end up turning just about every OS and security upgrade off, which will essentially leave me with Windows x64 and some copyright protection software that I can't turn off. So the choice is pretty clear in this stage of the game.

My concern with x64 would only come in if somehow software drivers made for vista would eventually stop supporting the x64 environment.

Thanks D.

I just hope that X64 gets a fair chance by MS & the other companys.

Why can't MS just say that X64 is for guitar players.lol It would sell like a hot cake.

I really don't have a problem with Vista at this point. I have been running its beta on, actually, an older computer of mine. It seems to run pretty clean. I haven't exactly slapped Pro Tools on it and done any process hungry recording apps so I can't really say as far as that. I would rather run Pro Tools on a mac any day though (Which means I have a higher I.Q. right?)

I read that other thread...
What the hell are you doing with your machine(s) that you need all that power?

Very curious.
