Default The Peter Gabriel mix contest

http://www.realworldremixed.com/competition.php

Has anybody downloaded this. I got it the day it became available but haven't had much of a chance to do anything with it. If anyone has maybe we could share some tips on how to deal with these tracks. I have a few that have already made it much easier to deal with.

I just downloaded the zip yesterday. Seems pretty straightforward just a bunch of .mp3 sample loops. I thought they were just going to be small one shot samples but they are the whole actual melody, phrase etc. The way I started was just use Reason to set up seperate columns for synths, chorus, verse etc. and just record whatever little mix you happen to do live. Afterwards I've added effects and put in envelopes, all that good stuff, on the multitrack recording.

I'm working on the waves myself. How did you deal with the tempo? I sampled the drums and bass to make the off tempo stuff work.

was there a zip with .wav files on it? is that what you mean with waves? I pretty much didn't deal with the tempo at all. I tend to not record with tempo in mind that often. I pretty much just freestyled the mixing. I did however truncate a lot of the percussion stuff.

Yeah, there was a download for 44.1kHz 16 bit PCM. It was pretty huge.

gnards then. I guess they couldn't take the bandwith hit. Using mp3s of that size does slow down Ableton a bit since of its transcoding it has to do. Might have to convert those to wave files in the end... talk about lossy conversions though then... hopefully my mix doesn't sound like you know what after all is said and done. Ah well when you get lemons...

Hey guys

Here's my attempt: http://www.realworldremixed.com/remi...P6gX1is93qHavs

Yes, it's meant to sound that way

I may do a more up-beat version later

Cheers

I likd your remix. Seems to me like you were able to draw more emotion out of the vocal than I'd ever noticed before.
