Default AKAI MPC500 announced

check out AKAI's site for it:
http://akaipro.com/prodMPC500.php

A smaller, portable version of the MPC1000. Compatible with older formats of MPC memory/samples and has built in USB connection to connect usb slaves like harddrives, external cd-r burners etc. still saves to Compact Flash which I'm not a big fan of, and has a different pad grid its 3x4 which means if you prefer the old MPC layout you have to rotate the MPC sideways to get that. Plus it runs on batteries. Any thought on this? MSRP is around $1300 dollars which is kinda steep if you ask me.

that is much more reasonable than $1300....which would make it more expensive than the MPC 1000. it is only a 3 lb device (1.34 kg = 2.9542 lbs), but is that with or without the batteries? and what size batteries will it take? does the effect "Bit grunger" make the sample sound worse?

Seriously, how often do you need to work on your beats in a place where there's no outlet available? The fact that it can fun on batteries is kind of cool I guess but it seems gimmicky.

That's true, but you still have to plug in either a mic- or line-level source, and chances are that's going to require AC power anyway.

I guess it doesn't hurt to have battery power available, but I'd rather sacrifice that in favor of a price cut (assuming I were going to buy an MPC, which is pretty unlikely anyway).

you can also use it to make beats on your private jet......if you are kanye at least. but it would just be better to keep your mpc at home and take a small portable recording device with you (like a mini disc or mp3/wave recorder); at least you won't feel as bad if you broke it instead.

if you've got a private jet, chances are you've got an MPC4000 on there. C'mon now. Be realistic here.
