Default Convert / Import old MIDI files

I've only used Creator on the Atari ST platform, and have just recently started to think about working in Cubase SX3. Is it possible to import MIDI files made on my Atari to Cubase directly from 3.5 " discs, or can I connect the Atari with my PC and import files that way? I'm greatful for all useful answers that means I don't have to re-record every single event......puh!http://forums.gearwire.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

As long as the files have the .mid extention the should open right up in cubase. 3.5" flopies should work fine (I thought I was the only one who still used these). You will probably have to patch the midi track output(s) to a software synthesizer to hear any sound. I am not a Cubase user but there should be some soft synth that has GM (general midi) sounds in it.

The floppies I have my midi files on are formated for the Atari ST. Is there any way to extract these files from the floppies, or can I somehow connect my Atari to my PC, to transfer midi files directly?

ah, I hadn't taken that into consideration. The only fix I could think of is to record the MIDI from the Atari into Cubase using a Midi interface. Create a project in Cubase that has the same tempo as the one you want to record. Then create as many MIDI channels in cubase as there are in your song on the Atari. 16 should be the max I am assuming.

Make the inputs of the channels in Cubase correspond to each channel in your Creator project. So if you have piano on MIDI channel one and want to keep it separate from your other instruments the first track in Cubase should take the input of MIDI interface>Channel One, and do the same for each following track. Arm each track and record and everything should be transferred in one pass.

Default Reason instead of Cubase

It turned out to be Reason 3.0 instead of Cubase. However I'm stilled as puzzled. I've got the Emagic EMI 6/2 MIDI Interface and the Atari connected to it, but I don't know how to make the input signal correspond to each channel. Once I've figured that out I need to know if the MIDI files from the Atari automatically ends up in Reason, or if they're stored somewhere on the PC. If I choose "Import MIDI" from the "File"-menu I must select a folder where MIDI files are located.....well, it's a mess! I more than pleased if you can help me out.

Default I'm one step closer, but...

The funny thing is that right after my last reply I found out how to make each channel correspond, I just can't get Reason to record what I hear! I use the MIDI Sync function to get the Atari to control Reason, and so far so good. But I would like to get each track on Reason to record from the corresponding track in Atari, and it doesn't happen! Does anyone know how to get passed this problem?

Default Using Cubase instead

I'm trying to get things right with Cubase instead, since you're more familiar with that.
How do I get the Atari to control Cubase, i.e. is there a Synchronization Function & MIDI Clock on Cubase? I can't find it. I'll look through the Help Files but help me out if you can.

Glad you had good luck. I can't import VST 24 Cubase .mid files into Cubase 4 on a Mac Pro. Absolutely no luck. Anyone out there doing the same thing?
