I am going to buy a synthesizer for my band but I don't know which one to get. The Xiosynthy looks great and easy to use but the X-Station looks like it will have more stuff.
Please Help |

Really the only difference I see between the two is the extra encoders on the front. The X-station has the fader encoders which can be used to emulate organ drawbars. Also there are a few extra knobs. What does this mean? More tweakability.
Both seem fairly portable but the Xio-synth is obviously smaller. If you are going to be taking this out that is something to consider. What kinds of situations do you expect to be using the synth? |

I saw this band in Japan last month using a xiosynth : http://www7.ocn.ne.jp/%7Etolsilo/con...esiloeigo.html
she'd customized hers with strap pegs so it was a keytar. very good sound for such a cheap little keyboard. she ran hers though a distortion pedal, thats it, and i think pretty much used one sound the whole set. I would say that the power in these synths are finding a cool sound and using it, battery operated too. it's not really good tweaking all the time so i'd go for the smaller more portable one with less faders. |

I've had a good play with a Xiosynth and they're VERY good fun. It's the portability... they feel like you could work on ideas on the train to a rehearsal using battery power, then plug in and go when you get there. It's actually not THAT hard to program them, the most obvious controls (filter cutoff etc) are mapped to the knobs on the front.
The distortion in the synth is pretty good too, it's much more... gravelly? gritty? than the distortion on my old Supernova. And... well, they're cheap enough that you don't mind turning them into a keytar
