Default When good synths go bad...

Ever had the case of hearing a great synth used by a group turned into horrendous cheesy music?

Lately I've been noticing in my own music collection some egregious examples of this:
Tony Banks Synthfiesta on all Genesis albums after Lamb Lies Down, Keith Emerson's synth schlock on Love Beach and beyond, Eno's after the Pearl especially that Neroli snoozefest, and Jarre's already ultra cheesy but likeable synths after Equinoxe...

I mean what the heck happened did the advent of FM synths, multipoliphony, midi, digital synthesis kill good synthesizer musicians from yore? Im thinking it did.

As late as it is, I still love the CS80 sounds (or was it an Arp Quadra by this time?) on Genesis' title track from ABACAB, especially the breakdown part in the middle.

im thinking it was an Arp Omni some crap like that, Tony Banks was too busy buying Ferraris or some other nerd-ride back then, but that track I agree is a very good one another good one I like was I believe it's called "In Your Arms(?)" that had some terribly cheesy like synth flute sound that's so cheesy its good. Other stuff I remember from the 80s(i was a pup then but you know how it is with radio nowadays) was hearing some of the Steve Winwood very corny brass synth sounds on his songs and digging it as well. Im pretty sure Daft Punk stole some of their brass synths from some Winwood presets they manage to look at.

::incoherent post:: egads.
