Default New Creamware Hammond B3 replica

The Creamware B4000 ASB. The selling point is that it has drawbars (and wood side panels). I agree that offering a tactile dimension adds a lot to these software emulations of classic instruments. But is this enough to get really excited about, or are they just repackaging the same ol same ol?

Looks pretty cool:

If you have the time there are controllers you can map to do most everything that box does. That could get tedious if you haven't done much MIDI mapping. People like when things that do what they are supposed to out of the box. I think it is a cool thing to include. Wood sidebars don't impress me though.

This is also new from Creamware--the PRO-12 ASB, an ARP Odyssey emulation in a real wooden box. Or, more accurately, a hardware emulation of a software emulation of a hardware synth. So . . . are these things cool, or are you content with your plastic MIDI controller and PC plugin synths?

Of course, there is also the Creamware Minimax ASB--the same idea applied to . . . you guessed it, the mini moog:

I think it is a cool idea. Maybe in the future I'll be able to buy a solar powered car that can fly, but also drives on the ground and looks and sounds exactly like a 60s muscle car. I wouldn't be against it. Saving tubes/backaches or gas it's the same thing to me. A good thing.

It wopuld be nice if they made stripped down versions of these that would just have everything mapped up right out of the box. The vintage look is not worth paying the extra $$$ for.

It is better to have all the sounds in the box though for live use. Nobody likes to bring as computer to shows.

Thinking about this a little bit I'm with for this kind of device. It like Nubus said stops you from having to bring a laptop on stage for VSTs all the time. However the price point is still too big for an emulated unit. If they ever found a way for cool virtual instruments in the software realm to make the leap into an inexpensive plastic controller mimicking the item I'd be all over that. I can imagine just using some kind of flash rom to store all the VSTs specifics and functions and fashioning a very inexpensive plastic encasing around it that stays true to the original and doesn't require too much money to make.
