Anyone here now anything about modulars?

I've seen a couple others too. Anyone ever buy modules or put one together before?

who makes a good starter kit?

That is an adorable pic.

I don't know too much about building your own but the Buchla stuff seems to be the most lust worthy. Here was an interesting page with a couple of hand drawn schematics for the VCA and VCA control.

I worked on Billy Corgan's last solo album where he'd just bought this MONSTEROUS Doepfer modular system. I honestly had no idea how to run the thing, but it was gorgeous sounding. I think he dropped something like $9k into the setup. I'm so bad about synthesis. I barely know how to deal with those things. I'm pretty impressed with people who can work those things really well.

Thanks, that's a good link. I'm actually curious because my friend wants to put a new one together and there's nowhere to physically check the modules out. He's thinking doepfer. You can get a starter kit from them for about 2k. I'd like to think I'll try and build a modular one day.

I know quite a bit about modulars but I'm not a big fan of those huge cable monstrosities. I'd rather just have something like an Minimoog or a Arp Axxe, just the meat none of the bone...

i know i'm dreaming, but are there any affordable inexpensive modulars out there? i seen a few really small portable units, but i bet they still pretty pricey...

This would be a cheaper way to do some modular gear:

If you aren't into the modular aspect of things but like patch cables for some reason you can always get those Korg Legacy controllers:
