i hope if someone ever covers a song i wrote that they take it in the spirit that i wrote it in; which is: i don't want to sound just like one of my influences. sometimes i enjoy a cover that is almost an exact copy (green day's version of so tired of waiting for you by the kinks was excellent because they didn't try to screw with it), and others i like to sound different or nothing like them (elvis' version of hound dog made rock and roll history, the origional was good; but didn't have the same intensity). besides, who just wants to clone or ape sounds and songs exactly? it's like the flaming lips said "if you don't like it, write your own song."
