I tried to add to your rep and I got this not so subtle message:

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to dagosto again."

heh

i think the biggest compliment (and yet, biggest insult too) was from a former bandmate about a "new song" that wasn't quite finished (and looking back, not that good, but still ok) was: "i'm not playing that, because that musically doesn't make any sense!"

also, i wonder, if they ever taught monkees to play instruments? anybody know?

There really is no tip. Just say what you want to say and make it sound good with your instrument. In fact, I know some people who can write songs but can't play any musical instrument.

Biggest tip EVER!~!!:
Pen and Paper with you ALWAYS. And when I say Always, Im serious!

I always have really cool song lyrics just POP in my head. Ill be walking to Burger King for gods sake, and an awesome guitar riff busts In my head and the lyrics just follow, something real nice ya know?
I always say.. Ill remember It, Ill remember It!
By the time you pick up the guitar... Its gone.

Its good to carry the paper, If anything, get a cell phone with a Mic on It, just kinda hum out the sound enough that the MIC can hear ya, It'll refresh your memory come time to form the song with your guitar.

know, I'm not the best song writer, I get maybe a few really good lines, and then my mind goes blank....
If anything, just wait a bit, come back....
Maybe call some hot chick (or guy for the girls out there), and ask her out for the hell of It, get some emotion In your blood, that adrenaline.
Then go write! IT WORKS!
The answer to the equation Is RAW EMOTION!!!

I carry a note pad and pen with me nearly everywhere I go. In the car, backpack, and all over my bedroom are pieces with song ideas, lyrics, chords, recording concepts/idea experiments. Just be creative whenever, and wherever the mood strikes. You never know what you'll end up with!

Yer I really dig that. I've tryed to cut myself off from music as much as I can but it's very hard. Also not trying to take things apart when hearing tunes.
