steve malkmus is awesome....forget standard v/c/mid 8/ break/ fade (just listen....moz) structure, and go with something diffrent. one of my favorite songs by 12 rods has no chorus, and you'd never notice! it's off of their ep, gay? and their first full-length as well (www.12rods.com); it's called Make-out Music...check it out!

"Does J Lo write her own songs?"

I hope not, I would have even less respect for her!

Yeah! It's not a verse, it's not a chorus, it's a prechorus!

How do you write one? Can you think of any songs that feature this?

I heard a novelty pop song on MTV last night, and it definitely had a prechorus.

Can't remember the name of the band or song though, so it must not have been too hooky!

as sad as it sounds...i feel that Kelly Clarkson "Since You've Been Gone" is an excellent example of a hooky chorus. The biggest choruses seem to always have these elements...
right before the chorus hits, the prechorus has some instrumentation dropped out..then a pause...then...BIG...lots of upfront vocals...totally different treatments on the vocals than verses,etc...and just really easy to remember lyrics with grab you in the face melodies.

as far as pre-chorus existence... really really sad to say...but Fallout Boy's "Sugar We're Going Down Swinging" has one of those mythical creatures...it's unfortunate they are an awful awful band.
