so cool... i watched the "magical mystery tour" video last nite, what a horrid storyline and script, but still, the songs are great, and the accompanying videos are cool too...

there's a scene in the movie where the beatles are in the audience watching a bizarre band with like an elvis presley imitator singing, and he keeps singing the line "death cab for cutie" its interesting how some bands get their names...

I did a video interview with Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick at AES. He was there in part to promote his book of great studio stories...the Gearwire piece'll be up in the next few weeks...

excellent! i cant wait. i read a recent interview with him in a magazine, he's a real down to earth guy, and has some great stories bout them beatles. thnx fer reminding me gearjunkie, i gotta buy that book! i heard its a great read...

i saw a beatles book (that i believe is now out of print) that has extensive notes on every recording and session of the beatles' career. it talks about all of the drool-worthy gear that they got to play around with at abbey road, what tracks it was used on, and how. if you can find it, buy it!

Yeah, I read about that book. I think there was an article about it in TapeOp. It sounds pretty interesting.

that's called Recording the Beatles and it is brand new, not out of print.

There are a few books on the Beatles recording sessions. I have The Beatles Recording Sessions which is an excellent day to day account of every session they did. It's a large, white coffee table type book that came out around 1989 and has original song titles, who was in the studio each day, how many takes, techniques, on and on. It focuses a lot on ideas they had and how they accomplished or invented gear or methods to get sounds they wanted. Great story on how John wanted to be suspended from the ceiling to be spun around a mic to get a rotating sound on a vocal. (They found an easier way!). Great read and lots of amazing pics. Not sure if it's still in print but well worth finding!
