I was inspired to check out the Sonar 6 demo. I like it, but It seems to crash a lot...
Do any of you sonar 6 users recall problems like that with the original release that have since been fixed? (the demo is v6.01) -craig |

hmm, I'm running 6.01 myself and it runs fine. I think I've had one crash the whole time which was probably because I was seeing how hard I could push it.
If yo are running xp go here: http://www.musicxp.net/tuning_tips.php and do as many of the tweaks as you can and then try again. |

i'm as tweaked as possible on this machine..
i'm going to try to take note of when the crashes occur. I know one happened when i was messing with the roland variphrase thing.. do you use that? -craig |

Do you mean VVocal. I really don't use that, but I happen to know that some of the bug fixes in 6.1 and up were for VVocal.

Ah that's it.. they call it the "roland v-vocal variphrase processor" on the cakewalk website.
I'm going to assume that the demo is just making this relatively unstable. i'm leaning towards the studio version, since it's $200 less than the PE and the only really compelling (to me) exclusive feature is PerfectSpace. What do you think? are the PE exclusives worth $200? I already have softsynths out the wazoo.. I can do pow-r dither in Ozone.. etc.. What's your take on the added value of the PE? thanks! Craig |

Perfect Space is pretty sweet but there is the free convolution SIR that can do pretty much the same stuff, the GUI is just not as friendly IMO.
I rarely use the audio quantizer (they call it AudioSnap I think) but there was a couple of times it made an out of rythm backing vox take usable. The main thing that is finding its way into my mixes is Vintage Channel. I used to use PSP Vintage warmer across my mix bus. Now I mix through Vintage Channel. It's very nice sounding for a plug-in and does what the Vintage Warmer did for me but somehow better. |

Unfortunately the demo didn't come with Vintage Channel or PerfectSpace, so I have to theorize on their added value here. Also, SE does have some AudioSnap functionality.. just not 'multitrack audiosnap', whatever that is.
I see there is an update from SE to PE that I could consider later if I find that the Sonar workflow resonates with me, and I want to get more bells & whistles. Maybe I'll fire up SIR again, while I'm at it, to see if I can bring myself to use it (that fixed 8k sample delay is annoying!) -craig |
