Default Signal attenuation from balanced to unbalanced?

I was messing with my patch bay over the weekend, trying to make my unbalanced RNC available to all my rack units. It's a great compressor, especially for taming spikey resonant stuff from my synth and filter effects. Trouble is, the RNC is unbalanced, and everything else is balanced. When I plug it into my balanced patch bay, the RNC seems to be out of whack with the gain staging of the rest of my gear. Can anybody help me figure out what's going on with this?

i think you should get about a 3 db or so drop from going unbalanced, but most inserts are -10dBV and unbalanced anyway right?
