the past few nights i've been running some stuff i'm working on into my board on eight seperate inputs, then listening to the 2 mix off the board. it feels right setting levels with those faders and pan pots. if i can get the setup nailed and the board keeps on working i may continue to this. anybody else mixing outside the box, even if it's just stem mixes?

I SWEAR by analog summing. Once I (eventually) get a new studio built and running, I plan on adding an outboard passive summing stage. They're very simple to construct, and you can use a pair of mic preamps for the makeup gain on the final mix down.

I'm with analog summing all the way. The only thing about it is that you will have to re-digitize. I would need a couple super precise converters set up and it would have to run at the same time as my interface. That may cause some problems.

i hardly ever hear of people mixing in the box anymore; in a pinch you don't have much choice though.
