Default Four Track Maddness

What's the best analog four track on the market?

The best cassette 4-track I know of is the Tascam 414MKII 4-Track Recorder. It seems with the digital revolution, most manufacturers have stopped making analog 4-tracks.
This really makes me miss my Yamaha MT120 4-track. If you can find one of these somewhere in good shape, buy it! They sound great.

man, 4-tracking is just a lost art.....soon there will be no more cassette tapes, and the digital equivalent is not as fun or easy to use.

Speaking of 4-track madness . . .

One time a few years ago I got my cassette 4-track to make some really cool squelchy, squiggly, glitchy sounds by routing stuff around -- out through a boss delay and back in somehow to tape.

I don't think there was a soure signal apart from feedback. I got it work once but didn't document what I did (I think I got the idea off the Internet originally). Now I can't recreate it and I would really like to.

Anybody know what I'm talking about?

i remember taking the cover from the cassette deck on my 4 track and randomly slowing parts down with my finger as it recorded; it sounded kinda crazy, but not all that usable. can i just repeat myself a 3rd time on this thread and say that this is a lost art; or would that be redundant?

Maybe try powering it off and on real quick while everything is connected and recording.

i like going direct in with a guitar and overdriving the preamp; not the smartest thing to do, but the distorted sound is pretty cool.
