Default Kick with no hole

What is a good way to mic a kick drum with no hole? I've only tried a PZM inside but I want to try two mics outside. Are there any secrets to be shared?

What kind of music? If it is heavier stuff I would recommend taking the resonant head off. That way you will be able to capture a clear click. Otherwise I would just put my favorite kick mic an inch or two from the resonant head. You could also mic the beater head. I don't usually do that but have heard some nice sounds using that technique. My best kick sounds have in a situation like this come from an N/D 868 a few inches from the head and a BLUE 8-ball (or any condenser with tight bass response) a couple of feet back. The distance of the second mic will vary greatly based on how the drum is tuned.

Obvious mic choices:
N/D 868
Beta 52
D112 (already mentioned)

Possible extra mics:
KSM27
8-ball
Ribbon?

That is what I'm gonna try, I just never have before. I know the phase will be backwards... I have to find a good spot/mic combo to get the click and mininmize the bleed from the snares/floor tom.
Interestingly enough, the PZM inside this sealed kick drum gets plenty of click. Oh, and the music is on the heavier side.

A 57 works fine as a supplementary mic on a kick in a pinch.

Yeah, that would be my first choice for the batter side, just because you're liable to have a spare 57 around anyway, and it won't matter if the drummer accidentally kicks it or something.
