Default Germanium . . .

Tape Op gave the new Chandler "Germanium" mic pre a nice review.

Germanium . . . nectar of the audio gods or yet more quasi-mysical voodoo BS?

Germanium is a semi-conductor used in transitors (the buiding blocks of op-amps). It has slightly different properties that its counterpart Silicon. Germanium is rarely used these days because of the high supply of Silicon (sand) but I am not sure if it is of any higher quality sound-wise.
