Default desert island mic

we all know the 57....love it or hate it, it gets the job done. what other mics do you use as a workhorse. multiple applications, something people don't know about? what is yours, and what do you use it for?

If there is only a tape machine and a pre-amp on the island I would probably have to choose a U87. If all I had was a laptop and an interface I would probably choose a dynamic, probably the SM7.

Thumbs up

I agree, either sm7, md421, or RE20. Should be able to handle everything you could throw at it, which probably wouldnt be too much considering the desert island and all.

Yeah, what would work best for micing two halves of a coconut knocking together?

Would this island be like the one on Lost? With a secret hatch to a room with ELECTRICITY! Well if it were I'd like a swiss army mic. The AKG C414 B-XL or the Rode Classic II Tube Microphone would work for me.
Then again, a SM57 would double as a decent hammer.

SM7; I think it will really help capture the complex sound of the husk.

If I understand correctly, the SM7 uses the same capsule that the 57 uses, does it not?

I'd love to have an SM7--I've had trouble figuring out whether this is actually true, but supposedly all the vocals on the Thriller album were cut with an SM7.

yes, it is true. Thriller's vocals were recorded with the sm 7; a lot of radio announcers, voice over people, and disk jockeys use it as well.
