Has anybody tried the Studio Projects C4s? It's a lower-priced Chinese mic but I'm wondering what kind of an improvement in sound those would give me over the MXL603s I've always used (which I think sound quite nice, personally).

i'm not a big fan of the 81's on overheads, but i did use a matched pair of oktava (though the model number escapes me) sdc's a while back with good results.

I've heard that the pro 37s are great for overheads, and very inexpensive.

I didn't like the Studio Project C4s for drum overheads. I did get great results with Pro37s.
You should definitely check out these: Peluso CEMC6 matched pair- Awesome! Esp. for a 3-mic set up. Great detail, cymbals especially really shine. Joesphson C42s- also great, especially if you're going to add close mics on the toms. Almost pillowy on the cymbals. Nice. Avenson Audio STO-2- If you have a well-tuned room with high ceilings, you'll LOVE these onmi mics on drums. OLD Octava's were the best value if you can still find the originals. Happy hunting.
