Default Large dynamic mic?

Has anybody used the Beyer M380? The only other mics by them I've used have been M88 and 500. I like those tho for what they did. I need a couple of dynamics good at reproducing low end though.

I like the RE20's, they have so many uses. You can use it for Kick, bass cab, guitar cab, vocals, and much much more.

For low end I would say try an MD421. I would not recommend these on bass guitar cabinets though. They work well on just about everything else though.

Has anybody done any electric bass recording using the figure eight pattern? Seems like an idea I want to try.

How do you mean? What source would be in front of the mic and what source would be behind it?

I've had good results micing a bass cab with my beyerdynamic opus 65.

edit: I should mention this is a cardioid mic--so not too useful for the figure 8 thing.

Lest we forget the proximity effect, boosted when close miked in the bi pattern. Sounds very good, also a good way to get boomy boom floor tom, and kick drum.

My go to mic for bass guitar is a beta 52 because I like how it mixes with a DI. I also like certain condensers on bass like the BLUE 8-ball or the KSM32 and 27.

I've never tried a figure 8 mic on bass. Usually when I am micing a bass cab I am also micing guitar cabs that are right next to it so bleed is an issue and I would be reluctant to try in this situation.
