Default Cleaning up house

Do any of you get that urge like I do to clean up house (by house I mean your gear) every year? I take stock of the items that I had bought on a whim or hadn't but don't regularly use and I could get rid off to add new stuff. Likewise, outdated equipment or upgrades are done on stuff you've been using to record with.

The reason I'm stating this is because this year I got rid of my main amp, my midi controller, and my audio interface all in a quick swoop. I found myself having to make the decision on what new items to get to replace them and hopefully upgrade. Do any of you do the same thing every once in a while just go through all the stuff that you use and see what's a keeper and what's a goner? or are you all pack-rats who never get rid of even old d'addario flamenco picks.

I have to admit that I am a pack rat with a whole bunch of equipment that I do not use. I have an oooold Radio Shack mic I still have because.....well just becuase, ya never know when you need a low quality mic. There are rare instances when I will get rid of equipment. In these cases what will happen is that I basically donate it to the less fortunate. I recently donated an very old mixer to a young band that can get use out of it. I was able to part with it just becuase I still have one I do not use and I am about to get another one. The other reason I personally hold on to the equipment is that in my studio, you will never know what the client my want to do. I had this crazy old effects pedal that sounded like crap, but one of my clients loved it and put it on his album. Hey, he was paying for the recording so "your the boss".

i don't buy enough gear to get rid of any. i make sure all of it still works, clean it if it needs to be cleaned, make sure i still have the power supplies, etc. i still have a ton of pics, but i can't seem to find the ones that i want anymore (guild jazz medium picks).

i totally agree... there's the really really good gear i would never sell, than there's the mehhhh so-so boring gear i could live without, BUT if i have some super cheesey lame gear, i try and keep it most always, cuz ya never know when ya want a super unique cheesey sound in the mix, yay!

Somehow I have, like, Nine Chewbacas. I've also got about 7 or 8 extra bass drum beaters, not counting the ones on my pedals. I don't know what happened.
I never even bought a 58 or 57, but somehow, I have 7 or 8 of them.

i'll trade you a chewbaca for my lando, only for keeps though! it happens where you don't know how the stuff accumulates (unless you steal it, but i don't think that you do Nubus), but it seems to find it's way to you. you must be a 57 magnet!

I've got the lando in disguise from Jaba's palace but I need Bespin City Lando, the one in blue.

I'm definitely a pack rat. I have a pile of picks that I shredded down past usefulness, yet I still haven't thrown them out. I also have a 4x12 that I don't even like the sound of at all but am unwilling to sell. What is wrong with me?

Yes, it is that time of the year where the pack rat is on 1 shoulder saying keep everything. The New gear junkie is on the other telling me I need new stuff. And my girlfriend is in front of me saying it's spring cleaning season and it's time we trimmed down the gear. (If she lets some shoes go, I'll let some gear go!
It seems the only time I get rid of something is when I find a replacement that does all and more or if I'm broke and the bills are due. It's hard not to buy new toys with tax refunds around the corner. Why do I need 6 guitars? Only a musician can understand!
By the way, my Yoda is missing. I have a spare Boba Fett. Trades?
