Default MXL 2001 Mod

Here is a comprehensive mod which turns a $79 MXL 2001 into a tube mic. It is a project I'd like to do if I can find the time. They (Royer) sell a kit for $160.

and here is a DIYer with nice pics:

I would definitely be into trying that. I wonder if it's something that a beginner could handle without disastrous consequences?

There's always that, of course. I think I've worked with electronics enough to know what to do to avoid dying.

......well, not dying is always helpfull; but you could always have someone do it for you. i've seen this guy on black lion audio-

he does a great job moding people's equipment for a nominal fee.

he's stopped returning my calls and emails at the moment and his holding two of my amps hostage, so i'm not huge on his customer support. all i'm trying to do is pay the guy and get my amps home that he promised me over a month ago. he did do a great job modding one of my amps in the past now, but now i can't get two of my toys home.

Sure, but I would like to get the modding experience if I could. I'm pretty big into not paying for services that I could possibly do myself.
