I have a demo of a song I have yet to record a final version of that I just have di'ed guitar on. I was going to reamp but it sounded kinda nice with just the di. I played through the Avalon channel strip (VT 737 I believe) using different eq settings on each track. It was a very harmonically complicated song and the fact that the guitar was so clean made the notes seem to stand out and make you listen. |

I know a lot of people in Japan record guitar direct only. It may be because of the small apartments and thin walls. The sounds on some multi effects with amp simulations can be really good. I wouldn't object if someone wanted to record direct only as long as it sounded good.
I've tried using the Hughes and Kettner Red Box before, but I couldn't really say exactly what it is doing. My best guess is some sort of lo-pass eq to emulate the roll off of a speaker. |
