i read a of a pretty cool idea in recording magazine yesterday, thought i would pass it along; If you have a 5.1, or 7.1 surround sound speaker system, you can strategically place the satelite speakers in different areas of your recording studio, so if a bunch of musicians are recording in the studio simultaneously, everyone can have there own speaker of the mix. true, it is not a traditional use of a surround sound system, BUT, lets say... if you are using a daw computer program with surround sound mixing capabilities, you can creativley mix what instrument goes to what speaker, for example; you can send the guitar to the drummers speaker so he can hear it better... its not an ideal monitoring solution, but a pretty cool idea...
