So this is what I found in my basement. It powers up and the motors seem okay. I just am waiting on a reel of blank tape to see if the heads stil work at all.

As far as what tones you need, it depends on what you need to calibrate. If the tapehead is off alignment or azimuth you need more tones I think. If you just are adjusting eq and bias you really only need 100, 1k, and 10k. I think most tapes made nowadays run on the NAB standard for retentivity. So you probably want that one.

Yeah. It is $105. First I'll have to run tape across the thing and see if it does anything. This may be a lost cause

Since it was made for the consumer the electrical bias in this machine isn't exactly user servicable. I'd have to open the case to get a t it. I think what I want to do now with this thing is use it as a tape delay. I want to try it out at least.
