Default vst hardware

hi. im thinking about buying a vst outboard hardware unit to run my vsts, instead of running them from inside my puter. anybody have any experience doing this? it looks like a great way to free up my processing power on the computer. and if so, do any of them come with foot controlling capabilities, like, for instance wahs? thnx

I haven't had any experience with this. However, I do know that the time of hardware running vsts is slowly creeping up. There are items like Muse Research's Receptor, Waves Netshell which allow you to host vsts off the computer. I believe TC Electronic and Lexicon have hardware based VSTs. I've heard good things about all of those items. I just believe the pricepoint though is still a little steep. The cheapest gear I've seen was around 500 dollar for Lexicon hardware-based vst reverbs.

Ahem, Gearwire has some decent vids on the Muse Receptor and UniWire stuff that we taped at Winter NAMM. Scope it:
