Thumbs up Recording a rock band? Check this out.

Really intense article on recording guitar. If you don't lift any technical knowledge from it at least it gives you an idea of how a crazy rock engineer should act.

hahahaha I love this quote "Don't look to 'twinkie'. He cannot be trusted. He is a MUSICIAN. THE ENEMY." Its so true in a studio situation, "He is hell bent on forcing you to make SHITTY SOUNDING RECORDS AND YOU MUST STOP HIM." Be proactive in all of the musicians sound they're not only paying you to turn the pots, plug the patches, and ride the faders, but to use your ears and judgment.
"This person is a guitar player. They have the intellectual capacity of freshly mown grass. Do not ALLOW them to think. That will doom the record. Cause band to switch to 'rap metal'. Compel them to start whispering in a really corny tortured voice about their miserable childhood growing up in a trailer park in Florida. Bring about pestilence. Locust. Scorched Earth. Mass destruction." hahahahahahahaha

CLASSIC, I'm printing this up and putting it in my studio, for musicians to read....

Great, great article!

It's hilarious when musicians ask you to make it sound "bad" or "dirty." My guitar player said to me the other day while we were recording, "Do you want to put the drum mics in the other room?"

I'm all for experimenting, honestly. But c'mon....

Once again, wonderful article.

Maybe he was asking about putting the mics in another room because he doesn't like the way you play? Jk. Some things may not seem to make any sense, but that's how you learn......but too much at $50 an hour (or more) isn't too productive.
