Default Recording guitar through bass amp

This weekend I recorded a demo with the singer of my band. Usually I just go direct and use effects for the demo but I really felt like putting a mic on something. The only guitar amp we had was the line 6 spider 1x12 and I didn't want to deal with that. The onlt other working amp I had in my basement was a little Ibanez bass amp I got for practice a while ago. So I used that with my Highway 1 Fat Strat through a TS9 tube screamer.

I miced it with the Blue Ball about a foot and a half from the speaker so I would catch some of the tweeter. I had to compress the sound which I don't usually do when using a guitar amp but the resulting sound was very tight and it fit perfectly with the song.

I think I may have found a really great setup for capturing this particular sound and will definitely use it again. A very tight rhythm sound that sits well in a mix.

Yeah. I'd do that. The last song I wrote one track was guitar through a bass head into a guitar speaker. Not exactly the same but similar. I did a whole CD where the bass went through a tiny little Fender practice amp just because it sounded, well, tiny. It always depends on the music. If you try pulling that little amp out on stage though, I will swallow you in a fury of Ampegness.

yea, i preamp thru my little vox brian may deacy special practice amp, it works really well, for both preamping into other amps, as well as into my audio interface. for some really weird reason, my acoustic electric washburn d10sce sounds really really good thru this amp... i also like that tinny sound it gives, plus the amp has a gain switch so i can really torque it up! good stuff

I use a compressor in parallel on the guitars occasionally.

Oh and by the way, your song sounds ACE.
