Default Geetar tonez lol omg

Say there, do any of you cats know of a site that has the amp/setup/eq settings/etc for classic guitar tones? Like "used a 53 Your Mom amp with the mids on 7 and the onion rings on 11", that sort of thing. If not, I'll take your mom and some onion rings instead.

THANKS, HONEY!

is there a specific tone you're looking for?

i know digitech has patches you can download for your GNX unit that is based on patches of famous songs. The thing is, although you don't have a GNX, it'll still say "amp based on JCM800 with mid on 8, treble 4...." etc etc.

guitargeek.com has pedal setups (drool) which i love looking at.

No I'm starting up a cover band with a lot of 70's/80's/90's top 40 upbeat dance type stuff (Janet Jackson, Madonna, Bee Gees, stuff that will make a girl get up and shake a booty or 2), and I want to cop the tones. I've never ever been one to try and copy somebody else's sound (especially tones from radio hits) so I'm looking for a good way to find how to dial em in. Perhaps I'll scope the pedal setups at guitargeek.

with you havin a podXT live, you could go into the line 6 forums to DL patches for it based on the songs you need. about 30 billion people are on there constantly uploading patches for these songs.

need the jangly guitar to billie jean? it's there.
need the sludge-metal guitar to walk? it's there.

boom.

Yeah, I guess I forget that, other than this one, forums exist. That and a lot of the user-made patches are poop. But I shall give that a hurl.

I say learn by doing. Use your ears and really take some time in finding those sounds. Based on the way you play and the sound of your front end (including fingers, strings, guitar, and amp) you may have to set your rig quite differently than did gytargod666 or mr_variax.

I don't want to just download a patch Joe Schmoe made. Even if I did I'd have to tweak it because the user tones on the Line 6 site are generally crap. I think I've found 1 good one for every million shitty ones. I was just wanting to find what the dudes on the recordings were using and how they had their eq set as a starting point, and then tweak from there. Closer to the source. I know I can just do it myself, and I've already begun.....I just figured if there was a site out there with the stuff on it why not take the short cut. I'm not a gear head or a tone meister at all, and the only reason I want to cop the tones (or play in cover bands for that matter) is to make money, and less time + more money = yes, please.

i'll agree with dan. try out the sounds as much as you can. a lot of the times, listen to the song, figure out "if you were recording this song, what would you want to use." chances are, you're right.

if it sounds jangly, it's probably a strat
if it sounds distorted and midrangy, it's probably a marshall
if it sounds like a ton of effects and four amps, it's probably me.

I can hear a tone and figure it out after a while, was just lookin for a quick list of hit songs & their tones to make it faster & easier. There's a list of everything else in the universe online so I thought there might be a list of that, too. Thanks for the advice though. Thrash to riffs.

Guitar geek has a great list of effects, amps, and guitars that several artists have in their live rig. You may want to check them out:
