Mixing bass

Interestingly, one the one cut where the bass and drums were recorded simultaneously (with plenty of bleed into the drum mics), the bass seems to sound a bit better than on the other cuts.

it must be the space around it helping? the DI by itself is too bald, and it needs some hair?

Possibly, and also the DI was going into one of the preamps on my Alesis Studio 24 board instead of into the Presonus on that cut. Hmmm....
