Default Stooges w/ Mike Watt sessions at Electrical Audio

In his online diary, Mike Watt has documented this past week's sessions at Chicago's Electrical Audio recording a new Stooges record onto a "16-track Ampex" (most likely a Studer A820(?) but Mike Watt can call anything he wants by any name he wants.)

Watt's diary style is dense and hard to read through, but goddamn if it isn't satisfying. Enjoy the enthusiasm and wonder he radiates. (And note the mike and amp documentation...)

I just got a call yesterday from an intern there searching high and low for a Reverend Drivetrain II for Ron Asheton. The call went "hi, you don't know me, but I've heard you have a lot of pedals."

One of my band's proudest moments was opening for Mike Watt. While we were playing, though, he stayed in the van and worked on his Hoot Page. Oh well. But we were mentioned on it. That's pretty cool.

the best word i can think of to describe mike watt is "unpretentious." anyone that has seen the movie about the minutemen or read "our band could be your life" would agree. there is a great story in that book about how he had terrible diareah on tour once, and decided to play the show anyways. he taped his pant legs shut and just let it rip onstage. now that's hard-core!

That is probably one of the grossest stories I have ever heard. I'm sure that van was a blast to be in afterwards.

yea, there are some more great stories on that dvd too, it's called: We Jam Econo: The Story of the Minutemen. Mike Watt didn't know about tuning when he first started. he thought the string tension was just a comfort thing; some people like their strings loose, and others like their strings tight! what a riot! go rent it now!
