Default Cheapish near-field monitors

A friend of mine is setting up a project studio and he asked me about monitors. I have a pair of Event 20/20bas, and I like them just fine. Got on ebay a few years back for pretty cheap. But I have no idea what I would buy today. What's in the sweet spot for good/small/cheapish?

Yeah.

Nice and compact, which is cool. But with the 4" woofers, is it enough to tell what's going on with the low end of your mix?

Suprisingly, it is. They push out a good amount of power, and refuses to get muddy.

I've been reading that the MAudio BX8A's are pretty hot. You can always add a sub to your setup if you are using 4" speakers.

The Wharfedales are a real sleeper IMO. They've gotten great reviews, but almost nobody knows about or uses them.

Default ns10's baby

these speakers always sounded horrible, especially on the low end, but if you can get a mix sounding good on these, they will sound good anywhere. I bought the last pair in Minneapolis before they were discontinued. If you cant get your hands on a pair, just plug your mix into a cheap boom box and turn it up loud to get the same effect.

tip of the day: if you get a pair of these, have them fused because if you blow them up, the replacement parts will probobally cost more than the speakers now.
