i have been to a few smoke free restaurants, and i have noticed rogue smokers lighting up despite the ban, or else, maybe they just forgot the new ban, either way, they get a few precious puffs off their smokie sticks b4 being told to put it out or get out... so annoying... i didnt order a cheeseburger with smoke! oh well...

I thought this was a thread about singing techniques? Now it sounds like an anti-smoking rally. Anyone have any VOCAL tips?
PS. Fact: Non-Smokers die every second.
Just having fun! Now back to the show.
Buy the Bill Hicks DVD. Trust me. You'll thank me.

I know it might be tough for those of you who are sensitive to smoke, but they should deffitnely get the story straight on rules and regulations, before they try to enforce such gigantic policy. Smoking cigs and going to shows is like a donut and a cup of coffee (a perfect match).
Well, I went to the Its show at the metro, no smoking, ok so I went outside, sorry no passouts, I said "what?". So, we cant smoke inside, and we cant go outside to smoke. Well should I go to the bathroom and smoke with everyone else, the answer was "if you want", thanks but no thanks Ill enjoy my cigarette minus human waste. OK.... so officially you guys suck ass, and I'm never coming back. I would also never depend on a comp ticket, or the ability to use it at this fecal representation of a concert venue. JMO

Oh yeah vocal tips , hmmmm.... save the screaming parts for last.

i am in the process of inventing a "smoking helmet "patent pending"" kinda like a bubble you can put over your head, so you can smoke freely in non smoking venues, but not blow smoke at other people.

seriously, smoking is more than an annoyance to a lot of people, it is a major health risk. I know a few people who literally stop breathing and have to go to the hospital if they are subjected to cigarette smoke. It's not just a long term health issue, but it can be an immediate life/death health situation for those extremely allergic to the smoke.

why not smoke sometimes, and not smoke other times? that's what i do. you dont have to smoke all the time... it doesnt have to be a black and white, all or none issue... i sometimes smoke....my friend is very allergic to the smoke, so i dont smoke around her.

Well then they should make cigs illegal! Maybe finally we would be exempt from their $5 sales tax.

i'm not one to defend metro's policies (i too have grown to dislike that place recently), but metro has hand-stamping for smokers and merch seekers. but yea, the dirty trick they pulled with the "comp" tix was not right.

I hope this is a joke, cuz the Dr is in. Now I'm not a doctor yet, but I am a 2nd year medical student and a jazz/blues guitarist, so I certainly feel nostalgic in smoky venues. That's why I'm here to reclaim the smokeless venue - cuz a show is JUST as cool smoke-free as it is smoky, COOLER in fact. If the music isn't enough to keep you high than get the fuck out.

Please, for all that is good, for your friends, family and loved ones, quit.
I'm putting this first because my intention is to encourage you to quit.
TIPS for QUITTiNG:
1. No cold turkey. Use the patch, the gum, meds, therapy/hypnosis - ask your doctor. You have double the chance of making it if you help yourself out. The nicotine products are not actually addictive, because it's not as rapid a delivery - some might not get this, but it complicated physiology and I've already written too much. PM me for more info. And that hypnosis shit fuckin works - the therapist I know who does it has a 98% success rate.
2. Get a buddy. Like going to the gym, it's better if you have someone else to help you out. Plus, it's double the people quitting. Coltrane joined Miles's band when he wanted to quit junk, which is the only thing more addictive than cigarettes (well, maybe meth, but anyway, it's freakin addictive).
3. Get a piggy bank. Fill it with your stoge-money for every cig you aren't smoking, and when you've finally kicked, go on a trip or buy some gear with it. Wouldn't you rather have an awesome Les Paul or kick-ass studio gear than those fuckin cancer sticks?

Now onto health issues. Lung carcinoma is the #1 cause of cancer death in the US, and nearly 90% of Lung Cancers are associated with smoking - thus, SMOKING causes more cancer death than any other single etiology, modifiable or not. BUT, even though 130,000 smokers die of lung cancer every year (150,000 total, with the other 20,000 mostly from environment hazards like asbestos, 2nd hand smoke, and other inhalants), cancer is NOT the most common cause of death related to smoking...

So even if you don't get the cancer, you're even more likely to get HEART DISEASE or STROKE from smoking. And if you're lucky, you'll just get emphysema or chronic bronchitis, which suck so much I don't even know where to begin - go meet someone with COPD, and ask yourself if that's what you want, b/c 1 in 5 smokers get it. Plus that peptic ulcer is getting worse, you smell like shit, and you look like a fuckin moron. Anyone got a light?

Please, for all that is good, for your friends, family and loved ones, quit. Smoking is so unhealthy that if I get an exam question that asks "Which of the following contibutes to [horrible disease]?" and smoking is an answer choice, I'll chose it 99.9% of the time (the only exception of the 1000's of pathologies is ulcerative colitis). I didn't know how bad smoking really is for your health until i got to med school - and I always thought it was bad, which means I have learned it to be really really really bad.

Well if it helps, lay off the nicotine a few days before you use your voice.
