Default xylophone

A friend of mine has a Musser xylophone made entirely of ivory. Any idea how much that thing could be worth?

i'm sure it's been grandfathered in, but isn't ivory (instrument or otherwise) illegal?

If it is then it's probably worth a lot.

most likely, yes; but it may be the case where you may have a more difficult time selling it because of that fact.

he should write a song on that ivory xylophone, and call it "dead elephants" that would be ironic. all kidding aside, i hear ivory (grandfathered...) is still very popular, yet also there's a lot of disdain for it also, which, ironically, make's it even more valuable and in demand (funny how that works...)

Thumbs up

I dont think ivory is illegal, the poaching of the animals who wear it, is. I think that xylophone is just ivory color, not actual ivory. I may very well be wrong, but I couldn't find any info on that actually being made of ivory. If it was ivory I think that would sound really weird. Arent they supposed to be made of hardwood? The xylophone was originally modeled after an African instrument and its name is Greek, meaning "wood sound".

I think it really is made of ivory. The color of it is really off and strange looking. The story goes it belonged to a traveling circus. Someone ended up burying it in the ground, and my friend's dad found out about it and dug it up when he was a teenager.
Man. I gotta get that xylophone back.

the sale of ivory is illegal as is the poaching of animals to obtain it; the sale fuels the demand for poachers to continue killing endangered and protected species.
